When an individual experiences a brain injury or stroke, his or her friends and family members suddenly find themselves on a journey they had never expected to take. It is not unusual to feel frightened, overwhelmed and uncertain about the future. With so much attention and concern suddenly focused on the person with the injury, caregivers often find themselves unable to ask for support or feel guilty for even admitting that they might need help. Sometimes it is really important for caregivers to simply be able to share their concerns with others who are facing similar challenges.

Companions on the Road Less Travelled…
6-Week Facilitated Companion Support Group
Each spring and fall, SABIS offers a six week facilitated peer support group for caregivers. We allow participants to share their stories, discuss some of the unique challenges that come with brain injury and explore options for maintaining their own health and well-being. This program is free and open to all friends and family members of survivors of acquired brain injury, regardless of whether the injury is recent or a number of years in the past. We know that the need to access support is ongoing.

Registration for the spring session begins Monday, February 6th, 2017. Groups will run Thursday evenings from 5 to 7 pm, March 23rd to April 27th, 2017. The deadline to register is Friday, March 10th, 2017. Click the links below for more information or to register.
